Definitely The Best Letter In Response To My Last Guardian Column

In response to this...

"My parents (now deceased) were always keen gardeners composting long before gardening became so fashionable and supplying the bins with detritus from house and garden. When my ailing father had a very heavy nosebleed my exasperated mother suggested crisply that he went down to the bottom of the garden and bled on the compost heap to give it a boost. "Go and bleed on the compost heap" has become family shorthand for lack of sympathy.
